In Vastu Shastra, the flame represents the fire element (agni), and lighting a lamp is believed to invite positivity and dispel negativity. Here is commonly shared traditional guidance — a gentle starting point rather than strict rules.
Directions
- South-east is traditionally associated with fire — a good place for candles and lamps.
- The puja room, ideally in the north-east, is where a daily diya is lit.
- The entrance: a diya at the threshold in the evening welcomes good energy, especially during Diwali.
Colours
Red, orange and gold candles are linked with warmth and energy; white and ivory with peace. Many families avoid black candles in the puja room.
Practical guidance
- Light lamps at dusk (sandhya).
- Keep the area clean and uncluttered.
- Use wax diyas where oil could spill on rangoli or fabric — like our Festive Diya Set.
