Fragrance notes (top, heart, base)
The layers of a fragrance: bright top notes you notice first, heart notes that form its character, and base notes that linger.
Perfumers describe a scent as a pyramid. Top notes (citrus, light herbs) are the first impression. Heart notes (florals like mogra and rose, spices) are the character. Base notes (woods, musk, amber, vanilla) give depth and staying power. In a candle the layers blend as it burns, but you still notice the shift from fresh to warm.
