Building an Evening Wind-Down Ritual with Candlelight
Twenty minutes, one candle and no screens — a simple ritual to help your mind settle at the end of the day.

Most of us go straight from screens to sleep and wonder why our minds won't stop. A short ritual — the same every evening — tells your body the day is ending.
The 20-minute ritual
- Minute 0: dim the lights and light a calming candle — lavender or sandalwood.
- Minutes 1–5: put your phone in another room. Make a warm drink.
- Minutes 5–15: do one slow thing — read, journal three lines about your day, or stretch.
- Minutes 15–20: breathe slowly, watching the flame.
- End: blow out the candle before you go to bed.
Why consistency matters
The same fragrance at the same time becomes a cue. After a week or two, simply lighting the candle starts to relax you.
