We choose vessels you'll want to keep: ivory glass, amber jars, metallic tumblers and tins. When the candle is done, here's how to clean it and what to do next.
How to clean a finished jar
- Freeze it. Put the jar in the freezer for a few hours. The wax shrinks and pops out with a butter knife.
- Or use hot water. Pour boiling water into the jar (glass only), let the wax float to the top, cool, and lift it off.
- Remove the wick tab with a knife, then wash in warm soapy water. Peel labels after soaking.
Twelve ideas
- Succulent planter — add pebbles for drainage.
- Make-up brush holder on a dressing table.
- Cotton pads and buds in the bathroom.
- Tealight holder — drop in a scented tealight.
- Spice or dry-fruit jar (food-safe glass only, cleaned thoroughly).
- Pen stand on your work desk.
- Bud vase for a single rose or a sprig of mogra.
- Jewellery dish for rings and studs.
- Matchstick keeper beside your next candle.
- Puja room holder for incense sticks or cotton wicks.
- Craft storage for buttons, threads and clips.
