Aromatherapy for Beginners: Essential Oils and How to Use Them

Aromatherapy uses plant essential oils to support mood and wellbeing. It isn't a substitute for medical care, but many people find it a pleasant, calming part of their routine.

Three oils to start with

  • Lavender — the gentlest; associated with relaxation and sleep.
  • Eucalyptus — fresh and clearing; popular in steamy showers and spas.
  • Lemongrass — bright and uplifting; lovely in the morning.

Our Aromatherapy Essential Oil Trio has all three.

Ways to use them

  • Diffuser: 4–6 drops in water.
  • Bath: 4–5 drops mixed first into a spoon of carrier oil or milk.
  • Massage: dilute to about 2% — around 12 drops in 30 ml of carrier oil.
  • Pillow: one drop of lavender on a tissue tucked inside the pillowcase.

Safety

  • Never apply undiluted oils to skin.
  • Keep away from eyes, children and pets.
  • Check with a doctor during pregnancy or if you have health conditions.
  • Store in dark glass, away from heat.
