Inside the Studio: How a Hand-Poured Candle Is Made

A hand-poured candle looks simple. In our Indirapuram studio, it takes patience over several days. Here is what happens before a candle reaches you.

1. Melting the wax

Soy wax flakes are melted slowly in a double boiler to a precise temperature. Too hot and the fragrance burns off; too cool and it won't bind.

2. Adding fragrance

Fragrance oil is added at the right temperature and stirred gently for two minutes so it bonds with the wax. Every new fragrance is test-burned first to check scent throw and safety.

3. Preparing the vessel

Jars are cleaned and warmed. A cotton wick, chosen for the vessel's width, is fixed to the centre of the base and held upright with a wick bar.

4. Pouring

The wax is poured slowly to avoid air bubbles. Pillars and diyas are poured into moulds. Small batches let us watch every candle.

5. Setting

The candles cool at room temperature, away from draughts, so the surface sets smooth. Rushing it causes cracks and sinkholes.

6. Curing

Soy candles are left to cure for several days. During this time the fragrance binds fully with the wax, which gives a stronger, truer scent when lit.

7. Finishing and checking

Wicks are trimmed, labels applied and each candle checked for surface, centring and scent before it is wrapped and packed.

It's slower than a factory line — and that's the point. See the results in our perfumed candles, or read our story.
