Wick trimming
Cutting the wick to about 5 mm before each burn for a steady flame without smoke or soot.
A long wick makes a tall, flickering flame that smokes and blackens the glass. Trim to about 5 mm with a wick trimmer or scissors once the candle has cooled. If the wick forms a 'mushroom' cap, trim it off before relighting.
